Jona recently flew to Madrid, along with host Amy Perez and her husband Carlo Castillo, to take part in the Maalaala Mo Kaya 25 Kakwentong Kapamilya, which was spearheaded by Charo Santos-Concio.
“Sobrang naging scary po talaga, sobrang kinabahan po kami. But we’re very thankful kasi po na-delay po yung flight namin sa Madrid ng isang oras,” she said during the press conference for ASAP’s upcoming segment ASAP Pinoy.
A suicide bombing took place at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport last June 29 and ended up killing over 44 people.
“So, andun lang po kami sa loob ng eroplano for two hours nang maka-land po kami, kasi hindi po kami pinapapasok sa loob ng airport for safety,” she said describing what happened when they landed at Izmir Airport.
Jona, who was not a first-timer in the said country, said she owes a lot to the Castillo couple.
“Si Kuya Carlo ang maraming contacts sa TV5, ABS-CBN, DFA, Philippine Embassy sa Turkey, kaya po naging okay din naman lahat,” she said.
“Nung nakakuwentuhan po namin yung mga contingents sa Turkey, two years ago nagsimula yung mga ganung threats at mga bombings, shootings,” she related.
The Birit Queens member ended, “Sobrang natakot po kami but, at the same time, nahimasmasan kami, at least po hindi kami naka-land on time sa Istanbul.”
Since she did not have any phone signal while abroad, Jona said that her family and friends worried a lot about her soon as they heard about the bombing in Turkey.
Amy shared a blow-by-blow account of their experience after the blast occurred on her social media account.
