Following last year’s controversy that surrounded Direk Erik Matti's film "Honor Thy Father," the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced a number of major changes for the betterment of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) yesterday, June 28, reported ABS-CBN News.
We trimmed these into six items - new things which we can look forward to in the new MMFF:
1. For the criteria: Cinematic Attribute and Technical Excellence, and Audience Appeal and Overall Impact will be given 40%; Global Appeal and Filipino Sensibility are 10% each.
2. Deadline for the submission of the FINISHED movie is on September 28. (This is a giant leap from the previous guideline of submitting just the script for the competition.)
3. A new MMFF logo will be introduced through a competition. (Plus, a call for submission for potential theme song!)
4. There will be two competitions under MMFF now: One for full-length (main and new waves) and another for short films.
5. The MMFF will hand out additional awards such as People’s Choice and Children’s Choice.
6. The new executive committee will be composed of the following personalities: MMDA chairman Emerson S. Carlos, Police Senior Superintendent Rhoderick Armamento, film academician Edward Cabagnot, producer Jesse Ejercito, Film Development Council of the Philippines executive director Teodoro Granados, writer Moira Lang, Bryan Ian Montaces, and Metro Manila Theaters Association Vice President Marcus Ng, Mowelfund president Boots Anson-Rodrigo, Bureau of Broadcast Services’ Jun Romana, SM Lifestyle Entertainment president Edgar Tejerero, Motion Picture Distributors Association of the Philippines president Wilson Tieng, Quezon City Rep. Alfred Vargas, and Movie and Television Review Classification Board Atty. Eugenio Villareal.
